MODIFIED SINE WAVE — a coarser approximation of mains, and cheaper for it. Fine for simple resistive loads like incandescent lights, heaters and basic tools. It can make motors and transformers run hot or buzz, and some electronics, chargers and medical devices will not accept it at all.
Pick the size on the rating you actually need CONTINUOUSLY, then check the STARTUP surge of whatever you are running. Fridges and power tools can pull several times their rated draw for a moment when they kick in, so the next size up is often the cheaper decision.
